Profile
As we stepped through the arched doorway of Serafina, the inviting warmth enveloped us, punctuated by the rich scent of simmering sauces and the unmistakable allure of freshly baked bread. This charming Italian enclave, perched atop Russian Hill, exudes a welcoming aura that feels both intimate and familiar. Illuminated by soft, amber-hued lighting, the space is dotted with rustic wooden tables and cozy banquettes, each one inviting diners to settle in and savor the experience. The ambiance is alive with the subtle hum of conversation, intertwining with the occasional clink of glasses and the spirited laughter of regulars. Our eyes were immediately drawn to the open kitchen, where skilled chefs move with grace, their hands deftly crafting dishes that embody the essence of Roman cuisine.
We appreciated how the layout encourages a sense of community, as diners share tables and stories, creating an atmosphere that feels like gathering around a family table. Service at Serafina is an art in itself. Our server, Fausto, struck a delightful balance between professionalism and warmth, guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm. His recommendations felt like a personal invitation to explore the menu’s treasures. We opted for the Pinsa Prosciutto e Funghi, a beautifully thin crust that showcased the delicate balance of flavors, and the Tonnarelli al Nero di Seppia con Polpo, a dish that harmoniously married the ocean’s bounty with homemade pasta. Each bite was a testament to the kitchen’s commitment to authenticity and creativity, the ingredients speaking volumes in their simplicity.
As we lingered over dessert, the Millefoglie con Pisi beckoned us with its layers of crisp pastry and creamy filling, a fitting finale to a memorable meal. The soft strains of Italian music wafted through the air, enhancing the romantic yet lively atmosphere, inviting us to visit just a bit longer. With the evening drawing to a close, we found ourselves reluctant to leave this cozy haven. Serafina is not merely a restaurant; it is a celebration of Italian culture, where each detail—from the decor to the dishes—conveys a deep sense of love for food and community. Our concierge recommends securing a table on the outdoor patio during golden hour, where the setting sun casts a beautiful glow over the neighborhood, enhancing your dining experience with a tranquil ambiance that pairs perfectly with a glass of their carefully curated wine list.

The interior is warm and inviting with cozy seating. It’s a local place off the tourist track so you’ll feel at ease and there aren’t a lot of tables so the food comes out right on time.
The food is magnificent and reminded me of my favorite places in Roma, Firenze and NYC. I’m very picky about my Italian food and this restaurant is at the top of my list in the USA.
The owners are 2 Italians and so is the chef. I suggest trying everything because every dish we tried was perfect. They’ve got a great wine list and we can’t wait to go back!!
We loved the specials (cacio e Pepe, seared tuna) and the chicken with capers. Dessert was lovely too. We sat in the corner booth and got a view of the whole restaurant so that was nice. Treat yourself 💖
I tried Pinsa Prosciutto e Funghi (very tasty and thin dough, authentic Italian style), also tried the Tonnarelli al Nero di Seppia con Polpo (very light sea pasta).
For desert we followed the recommendation of Fausto, our server, Millefoglie con Pistacchio a La Mode (homemade desert, really impressive flavor) also tried the homemade Tiramisú, very tasty.
The environment was very cozy!
Definitely I’ll be back and recommend a try for all!
