Profile
As dusk falls over San Francisco, the soft glow of pendant lights casts a warm embrace around the intimate dining space at Octavia. The atmosphere pulses with a blend of anticipation and comfort, a hallmark of a neighborhood eatery that has quickly established itself as a culinary beacon. The elegant design, featuring honey-toned woods and muted earth tones, invites you to unwind, while the subtle hum of conversation and the clinking of glassware create a soothing backdrop. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a gracious host, whose genuine welcome set the tone for an evening of thoughtful hospitality. The transition from the bustle of Octavia Street to the serene ambiance of the restaurant was seamless, as we were led to our table—a cozy nook that offered a view of both the open kitchen and the vibrant dining tables.
This vantage point allowed us to observe the rhythm of the kitchen, where Chef Melissa Perello and her team transformed seasonal ingredients into artful dishes, each crafted with precision and passion. As we settled in, the menu revealed itself as a celebration of local bounty, with dishes that highlight the best of the Bay Area’s farms. Our culinary adventure commenced with an ethereal salad, a medley of freshly foraged greens topped with delicate edible flowers, each bite bursting with the essence of the earth. Next, we savored a house-made pasta that was perfectly al dente, enveloping rich flavors of slow-cooked pork—a dish that had guests around us murmuring their approval with every forkful.
Wine pairings, carefully curated, flowed effortlessly, enhancing each course without overshadowing the artistry of the plates. The sommelier’s recommendations were spot on, reflecting an impressive understanding of the menu’s nuances. As we lingered, savoring the moment, the standout sourdough bread made its entrance—a warm loaf that was both deceptively simple and utterly irresistible, its texture a perfect balance of crusty and elastic. A beautiful crescendo to our meal was the dessert, a seasonal offering that combined rich chocolate with bright citrus notes—a delightful surprise that left us content yet yearning for just one more taste. The service throughout the evening was attentive yet unobtrusive, ensuring that our glasses were never empty and our plates were promptly cleared, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. With each passing hour, the tables shifted from a tranquil dinner setting into a lively hub of celebration, where laughter and clinking glasses filled the air. Octavia is not merely a place to dine, but a canvas where flavors and friendships intertwine, making every visit a cherished occasion. Our concierge recommends reserving a table in the cozy corner by the kitchen for an intimate experience that captures the essence of the evening’s vibrant energy.

I got my meal to go and it still tasted just bad good the next day.
We got the bread with the butter, the blue cheese salad, I got the wagyu and him the cod, chardonnay wine, and the galette to share.
