Profile
The evening began with a vibrant splash of color as plates of ceviche arrived at our table, the delicate fish glistening under the warm light of the overhead fixtures. Each bite was a refreshing prelude to the culinary journey that awaited us at Cantina Los Mayas. As we entered this enchanting space, the air was suffused with the enticing fragrances of lime, cilantro, and a hint of roasted peppers, all harmonizing beautifully to create an atmosphere brimming with authenticity and warmth. Our arrival was met with the genuine hospitality of the staff, whose smiles felt as inviting as the soft, rustic decor that surrounded us. The ambiance shifted seamlessly from the lively chatter of excited diners to the cozy intimacy of our corner table, where vintage Mexican films flickered softly on the screen, adding a nostalgic touch to the experience.
The soundscape was a delightful blend of laughter, clinking glasses, and the soothing strums of a guitar, all combining to create a lively yet relaxed atmosphere that invited us to linger. As we delved into the menu, we appreciated the thoughtful curation of Yucatecan-Mexican cuisine, with each dish reflecting a deep respect for traditional recipes. The tacos, a highlight of the evening, showcased an impressive variety—each tortilla hand-pressed and filled with flavors that danced across the palate. The bar’s impressive selection of 100% Mexican wines added a distinct character to the meal, with our server expertly guiding us through the offerings, suggesting a crisp Sauvignon Blanc from San Luis Potosí that paired beautifully with our choices.
The rhythm of the service was impeccably timed, allowing us to savor each course without feeling rushed. A standout moment occurred when our server surprised us with a complimentary dessert—a rich, velvety flan, its sweetness perfectly balanced, leaving us with smiles long after the last spoonful. The generosity of the staff and the caliber of the cuisine made every moment at Cantina Los Mayas feel special, as if we were partaking in a cherished family gathering. Our concierge recommends reserving a table in the back tables, where you can enjoy the charming atmosphere while indulging in the expansive wine list that celebrates the diverse regions of Mexico. This setting not only enhances the dining experience but also sets the stage for delightful conversations over a shared love of authentic cuisine.

Juventino took the time to share insights about different wines and the Mexican wine industry, which was a big deal for us since we work in the industry. I’m extremely happy to see people who still genuinely care about service, what I like to call real hospitality.
Thank you, guys. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Theyre open for dinner with a really nice quite extensive Mexican wine menu. Come eat and enjoy. 5th Ave & balboa across from Cinderella
We started with the ceviche—it was spicy, but super balanced with a fresh pineapple-lime flavor that made it bright and refreshing. We also ordered the queso fundido, and it was a highlight: a creamy, milky blend of cheeses with chorizo, and I loved the little candle underneath that kept it warm the whole time.
For my main dish, I got the mariscos served in a pineapple. It hit that perfect sweet-and-spicy combo, and the two roasted shrimp were honestly so delicious. I just wish it came with a few more shrimp, but overall the rest of the seafood was filling and satisfying.
The only thing I was expecting a bit more from was the salsas—I hoped for stronger flavor and more heat. That said, they were still good.
Also, the location is great and easy to find, and parking nearby was pretty easy, which made the whole night even smoother.
