Our concierge team has always admired how Residence Inn by Marriott Seattle University District blends polished comfort with a genuine sense of place in Seattle. The architectural lines of the property are a modern blend of sleek glass and warm brick, reflecting the vibrant energy of the university district while simultaneously inviting a sense of home. Entering the lobby, we were greeted by a soft palette of earthy tones, punctuated by vibrant artwork that hinted at the local culture. The ambiance was vibrant yet comforting, with the gentle murmur of guests mingling, punctuated by the occasional laughter of families enjoying their time together. Our arrival was met by a friendly front desk team, whose genuine smiles and efficient service set the tone for our stay. Check-in was a seamless experience, with staff members expertly balancing attentiveness and efficiency. As we explored the lobby, we noted the inviting seating arrangements, designed for both social interaction and quiet reflection. The thoughtful layout fosters an atmosphere where guests can gather for casual conversations or find a cozy corner to unwind with a book. A subtle scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted from the adjacent breakfast area, hinting at the inviting start to our mornings. The suite we settled into was a delightful surprise, feeling less like a standard hotel room and more akin to a well-appointed studio apartment. Natural light poured through expansive windows, framing views of Seattle’s lively streets. The decor struck a balance between modern aesthetics and comfort, with plush bedding inviting relaxation and a kitchenette that promised the convenience of home-cooked meals. The bathroom felt impeccably clean and well-designed, featuring a spacious shower that enveloped us in a refreshing embrace. As evening approached, we felt the energy of the lobby shift beautifully, with guests gathering in the bar area for drinks and socializing. The atmosphere became a tapestry of laughter and conversation, enhanced by the soft glow of pendant lights, creating the perfect backdrop for a nightcap. The hotel’s proximity to the Neptune Theatre meant that post-show gatherings were just a short stroll away, allowing us to savor the vibrant culture of Seattle without the hassle of transportation. Our concierge recommends requesting a room on the higher floors for an elevated view of the city skyline, best enjoyed during sunrise or sunset to fully appreciate the stunning colors that wash over the urban landscape. Additionally, be sure to savor the complimentary breakfast, particularly the freshly prepared hot options, which provide a delightful start to your day.

The hotel itself is walking-distance convenient to nearly everything in the U District, from restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, the university and its medical facilities, including an Emergency Room. Of course, this is an urban area, so you should be prepared to encounter some colorful characters when walking around. On that note, the hotel itself does have at least one security guard, and the doors, underground garage, and elevators are secured by keycard.
Like other Residence Inn properties, the rooms all feature fully-equipped kitchenettes, with full-sized refrigerator/freezers, dishwashers, a stovetop, full-sized microwave, and all the cookware, dishware and glassware you could need. The rooms are all very clean, and any problems are fixed promptly (we had a thermostat randomly go out in one of our rooms; it was replaced in under an hour). The rooms are remarkably quiet.
Each day a delicious full buffet breakfast is available, with some rotating items for weekdays and the weekend. They do not have a make-your-own waffle station, but they provide pre-cooked waffles on weekends and a breakfast sandwich on weekdays. They also have sausage, cereal, muffins, bagels, fruit, vegan sausage…a very wide variety, such that even the pickiest eaters will be satisfied.
The on-site gym is well-equipped with dumbbells, two adjustable benches, a weight stack cable machine, several treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes, along with medicine balls, exercise balls, and a foam roll. There is no pool, hot tub, or sauna.
Each floor features two washers and dryers that use an app to pay for each load and cycle. Detergent is available at the sundry market in the lobby.
The hotel's underground parking garage features EV charges, but has a 6'8" height restriction. The hotel does have several spaces for overheight vehicle parking, but it is not in a secure garage, the spaces are in a surface lot directly behind the hotel. These spaces are not necessarily for oversized vehicles; we had multiple instances when other vehicles had parked on the lines or across spaces, making it impossible to use the adjacent spaces. The front desk staff are incredibly understanding about this, and happy to help find and cover the costs for alternate spaces.
Bottom line: if you need to stay in this part of town, and especially if you will have an extended stay, this is the place to be.
