Profile
On a lively Friday evening in San Rafael, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as couples and families filled the vibrant space of Sol Food. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant’s strikingly colorful façade beckoned us inside, offering a vivid introduction to the spirited Puerto Rican culinary experience that awaited. With a warm greeting from the host at the entrance, we stepped into a setting that exuded both energy and comfort, a delightful balance that made us feel instantly at home. As we settled into a cozy booth, the vibrant decor—punctuated by tropical hues and island-inspired artwork—invited us to soak in the surroundings. The rhythmic sounds of Latin music played softly in the background, creating a lively yet relaxed ambiance that encouraged conversation and connection.
We were impressed by the attentiveness of the staff, whose friendly demeanor and genuine enthusiasm enhanced the experience. The pacing of service was seamless; our server skillfully guided us through the menu, offering insightful suggestions and ensuring our glasses were never empty. The menu leans heavily toward authentic Puerto Rican flavors, and we found ourselves drawn to the Pollo al Horno and the celebrated Camarones Criollos. Each dish arrived with generous portions, beautifully plated and bursting with color. The Pollo al Horno, succulent and infused with spices, paired perfectly with a side of perfectly fried plantains—both crispy and tender. The camarones, saucy and aromatic, were accompanied by a fresh organic salad that provided a delightful contrast in texture.
A standout moment for us was when the server introduced us to their spicy vinegar, a condiment that added a zesty kick to most dishes, elevating the meal to new heights. As the evening progressed, the restaurant’s energy shifted; laughter and lively conversations mingled with the clinking of glasses, creating an atmosphere that felt both celebratory and comforting. The occasional hustle of kitchen activity punctuated the air, a gentle reminder of the culinary magic being crafted just behind the scenes. Guests lingered over their meals, savoring each bite and sharing stories that flowed as freely as the cocktails. Our concierge recommends arriving just before sunset to fully appreciate the vibrant colors of the restaurant’s decor against the evening light, and be sure to indulge in the mofongo, a dish that many guests rave about for its delightful garlic punch. Whether for a casual dinner or a lively gathering, Sol Food captures the essence of Puerto Rican hospitality, ensuring an experience that resonates long after you leave.

Loved the island-inspired decor and chill music playing in the background.
The vibe was easygoing, though it got a bit noisy at times.
Fun, fast, friendly consistent service and always good food.
This evening my wife and I enjoyed the Camarones Criollos, which is saucy Creole prawns, served with rice, organic salad, avocado, and plantain. (My wife had the plantain and I had the potato fries and we shared each)
Can’t wait to visit again soon!
