Profile
As the sun began to dip behind the skyline of Johor Bahru, we arrived at Kuroma Buffet & Dining, the vibrant heart of Japanese culinary artistry in the area. The moment we stepped through the expansive glass doors, the atmosphere shifted from the bustling streets outside to a serene embrace of modern elegance punctuated by subtle hints of traditional Japanese decor. Light filtered through delicate shoji screens, casting a soft glow that invited us into this culinary sanctuary. The host greeted us with genuine warmth, guiding us to our table, which was strategically positioned to offer a sweeping view of the lavish buffet spread. The soft murmur of conversation mingled harmoniously with the gentle clinking of ceramic dishes, creating an inviting soundtrack that set the tone for an evening of indulgence.
We noted the careful arrangement of the dining space, where each table felt intimate yet connected to the larger energy of the tables, punctuated by occasional bursts of laughter and enthusiasm. As we surveyed the offerings, our senses were immediately captivated by the array of vibrant sushi and sashimi, each piece a testament to the skill of the chefs. The selection was particularly impressive; we couldn’t resist the allure of the butter prawns and oysters, both renowned for their freshness. Each bite was a revelation, embodying the essence of Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. The staff, notably attentive and unobtrusive, seemed to anticipate our every need, ensuring our plates were cleared with seamless efficiency while we savored the exquisite flavors.
A delightful surprise unfolded mid-evening as the Executive Chef, Chef Choon, took center stage for an impromptu dance performance, energizing the atmosphere and eliciting cheers from guests. This unexpected moment of joy beautifully illustrated the restaurant’s commitment to creating not just a meal but a whole experience. As our evening unfolded, the rhythm of the service felt effortlessly choreographed, allowing us to linger over our desserts—a selection of delicate mochi and rich matcha cakes, each crafted with an artisan’s touch. Kuroma captures the spirit of celebration, making it an ideal venue for special occasions or simply a remarkable night out. Our concierge recommends securing a table during the early evening to fully appreciate the transition from the tranquil ambiance of dinner to the lively energy that emerges as the night progresses. Don’t miss the chance to indulge in the butter prawns; they are a highlight that perfectly encapsulates the restaurant’s vibrant personality.

I love the most were the butter prawn and oyster. Fresh and plump oyster, and no fishy smell. The butter prawn – that one was unexpected. Perfectly cooked and well balance flavour. And they even kept the head with the inside still juicy cooked. Just perfect. Sushi and sashimi were good. Not too much choices but still taste nice.
The only downside i think were the boiled seafood – mini lobster, crabs… the lobster overcooked and doesnt taste fresh. The crab i didn’t take it because it appearance similar with lobster. Looks overcooked.
I love abalone and the abalone served there actually good but maybe washed too much? Im not sure. The sweetness of fresh seafood is slightly lacking in my opinion. Maybe overwashed.
But overall, everything was perfect. Wonderful dinner, great desserts. Omg the desserts just hit all my sweet spots. Drink bar – you can order fresh juice besides the prepared on the counter.
Hopefully one day soon i will bring my friends there
